Goju — A Part of my Life

By Kristin

When you are five years old life is just beginning and you're experiencing so many things, most of which will simply become great memories later on in life.  For nearly a decade I was involved in GoJu karate and then the teenage years came knocking at my door and took me in a new direction, one that no longer involved GoJu.  Sensei Lasorsa was my instructor for those years.  He was such a role model for me and is someone I will remember as such for the rest of my life.

Nearly another decade has passed and I would be lying if I said my heart never longed to be a part of the GoJu family that was such an integral part of my life throughout my developing years.  Procrastination, college life, lack of funds, a desire to become an entertainer... few of the many reasons I was away for so long.  But now I'm back  (I mean, all of the above definitely still applies but I have figured out how to do both)!

Nearly two decades, (wow I'm old), since I first began, I returned because the desire never left.  I miss the camaraderie and everything else I remember so fondly.

My new class with Sensei Baier is wonderful.  I am learning so many new things and GoJu is everything I remembered it to be!  (But this time I am not doing as many push-ups for "mistakes" - which is definitely a good thing).  I also respect that fact that a fellow classmate, Jim, was a child student as well and chose to do the same thing I have chosen.  I guess it goes to show you that once in GoJu, always in GoJu (even if that means taking a 10 year hiatus)!  I don't want GoJu to be a great memory; I want it to be a current experience!
