The Warrior Spirit

By Izzy Kaplan

The typical day in the life of the Warrior begins with reflection of what the day holds in store.  His only concern is to protect and serve the people to which he is dedicated.  This obligation is nothing greater than none his honor and promise.

Cleansing himself of all life’s impurities and rededicating himself to his quest, he proceeds to adorn and decorate himself with the uniform of his peers – letting others know of his promise and commitment.

He begins his quest with a sip of ceremonial sake and pays tribute to the people he is committed to.  He picks up the weapon of his trade, the Samurai sword, and mounts his faithful horse and begins his journey.

Warriors have many different quests and missions.  Today’s requires traveling great distances beyond where his faithful horse can carry him.  He goes as far as physically possible, sits down, closes his eyes and begins to fall into a deep meditation.  Soon, his chi rises from inside his body and he is suddenly soaring above the clouds.  He vividly sees and feels his surroundings as he travels to his final destination.  There is nothing that can stop the warrior from achieving his goal and mission.

Where there is a will, there will always be a way!

Who might this Warrior be? - It could be anyone one us.  We need to learn the ways of the Warrior.  This can accomplish this through self- discipline and learning from Karate, our Sensei, and our Parents.

Your uniform of trade?- Believe it or not we all wear uniforms in one way or the other.  Whether you are a policeman, crossing guard or student carrying a book bag for school.  All these identify our mission  to others.

What is your weapon of choice?- Well in your case it is a notebook and pencil for school and most importantly, your mind - to learn the materials that are taught to you.

How do you fly above the clouds?- You are only limited by your mind and dreams.
